Seeker's Story

Most have asked about this person called the Blind Seeker and I suppose it is time to tell his story. It happened many years ago as time goes. As a young lad of 17 seasons. I was struck down by an insidious plot. The knife was supposed to pierce my heart cleanly but the assassin was a fool. He misses but not quite. The damage is done.

Laying there on what I thought was to be my deathbed, healers doing their best but calling for the monks to stand watch for my soul to depart, there came a stranger to my side. He looks apon me and says," Wake boy. I would have words with you.". Now I would, under other circumstances, have sent him away but his tone was commanding. I could only think of one thing. I ask,"Are you here to watch me die?" His answer to me was a resounding 'NO'. "Are you a healer?", I ask. Again he says no then disappears. I gasp and wonder, A wizard? or a figment of my fevered mind.

As I slipped deeper into my despondence he came to me again. He spoke of the future, the past, of many thing. At last I cried out for him to leave me to die. For at that time I really believed I was to die. I remember that he smiled and in his eyes I saw a fire. A fire of life and passion. It was then that I found that I would live. I saw my life in his eyes. I saw my strength. How could this be?

In a soft voice he said," My Lord. You will die. But not today, nor tommorrow. Your time is not yet. You have many you must show what kindness is like. You are to show that you are strong and good. Speak only truth and always with a smile. You will find those who will say you are a fool but always remember to face them with kindness and honor. No my Lord. Your time is not yet. You will live on. That is a promise made by the Blind Seeker.".

My mind was on fire with what I had heard. How can this man promise that which is out of his hands. For a man he was. I had touched him. Or was he? In his many visits, as I recovered, I asked many times why he called himself the Blind Seeker. His answer was that it is a reminder that we always seek and if we would only open our eyes, the answer will be there in front of us to see. As I look back over the years, I am lead to believe he was right. Yes, he was right.

That man saved my life but more than that, he gave me back my soul. In the years we have walked together, he has taught me many things. Things like how to live, to love, to care and to cry. These are not manly things you say? Do not believe it. These aspects have given me life. Shown me beauty. They have brought me much joy and sorrow. In essence they have made me much more a man. And maybe a little wiser.

Yes...Tho the heart is damaged and the body is frail at times. He taught me to live such a good life. His teachings have given me many wonderful friends. Reason enough to live I would say. I owe my life to the Blind Seeker. He has been my guide and friend. There is no way to repay this man except to say,"Thank you." and follow his teachings with honor.

My friends, the story you have just read is fantasy only in respect to the setting in which it takes place. I was struck down, not by an assassin's dagger but by a weakness of heart. I also learned these important lessons of which it tells. As to whether these lessons have made me a good and honorable person is for you to decide. One question remain. Was the Blind Seeker a real person or my stubborn will to live. The answer *chuckle* is yes?...
